Managing stress:

Learn about the basic nature, sources, symptoms, and consequences of stress and other topics related to stress. You will also learn effective stress management skills such as muscle relaxation, cardiac coherence, meditation, guided imagery, and cognitive restructuring. The goal of the workshop is to promote and strengthen the individual’s potential to understand and experience situations and life events in a way that compels one to act constructively rather than adopt a non-assertive, blaming perspective.

 

More specifically, we will learn:
- to define stress and understand how it differs from pressure
- have a working understanding of modern models of stress 
- understand the psychophysiology of stress
- identify the main physical, psychological and behavioural symptoms of stress in self and others
- recognise thinking errors and performance interfering thoughts and develop coaching, training or counselling thinking skills to help individuals modify these beliefs
- develop a range of strategies and techniques to tackle stress, including Type A modification, relaxation skills, lifestyle management
- understand Type A behaviour and Locus of Control constructs
- recognise the organisational symptoms of stress and identify what strategies can be undertaken to prevent and manage stress at work​

Assertiveness training is a form of behavior therapy designed to help people stand up for themselves—to empower themselves. Assertiveness is a response that seeks to maintain an appropriate balance between passivity and aggression. Assertive responses promote fairness and equality in human interactions, based on a positive sense of respect for self and others.

The purpose of assertiveness training is to teach participants appropriate strategies for identifying and acting on your desires, needs, and opinions while remaining respectful of others. This form of training is tailored to the needs of specific participants and the situations they find particularly challenging. Assertiveness training is a broad approach that can be applied to many different personal and work situations.
 
Learning to communicate in a clear and honest fashion usually improves relationships within one's life. Women in particular have often been taught to hide their real feelings and preferences, and to try to get their way by manipulation or other indirect means. Specific areas of intervention and change in assertiveness training include conflict resolution, realistic goal-setting, and stress management, in addition to emotional and psychological benefits.
 
During the workshop, you will learn how to : give information clearly, state opinions and feelings appropriately, make requests, say no to requests, handle criticism, make criticism, start, maintain and end a conversation, handle conflict, negotiate, accept and give compliments.
